AMD Unveils Second Generation Ryzen Processor Cpu Learnonlinee

AMD has announced preorders on Ryzen 2nd generation processors are officially live now and the chips are due to arrive on April 19.

AMD's newest processor family includes four processors: the Ryzen 7 2700X, Ryzen 7 2700, Ryzen 5 2600X and Ryzen 5 2600. Both the Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 2700 feature eight cores, 16 threads and, as rumored, a higher base/boost clock speeds over the previous Ryzen 7 1700X and 1700 CPUs.

These new 2nd generation Ryzen chips not only bring more cores and more speed to the table, but also feature advanced AMD SenseMI technology, a set of sensing, adapting, and learning technologies built into Ryzen chips.

Motherboard support for the 2nd generation Ryzen chips comes in the form of the X470 chipset, will launch alongside the silicon, with boards available from all the big names, including ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI.

Meanwhile, the Ryzen 5 2600 costs $199, and is also a hair slower at 3.4 GHz and 3.9 GHz base and boost clock speeds, respectively -- along with 19MB cache and 65W TDP.

Existing 300-series motherboards will require a firmware update in order to be compatible with 2nd generation Ryzen chips, although 300-series boards that are labeled "Ryzen Desktop 2000 Ready" will already have that update installed

At the more affordable end, there's the six-core Ryzen 5 2600, which will go for $199. It's clocked between 3.4Ghz and 3.9GHz, and it should be a solid competitor to Intel's similarly priced Core i5-8500. The new chips are built on AMD's 12 nanometer Zen+ architecture, so you can think of them as a slight upgrade over last year's models. Its true platform followup, Zen 2, is expected to debut next year.
